On the first day, we did some very hectic sightseeing, doing the colosseum and fountains (multiple) and roman ruins, spanish steps... It was an exhausting day and I was slightly disappointed about how touristy it all was but I suppose that is only to be expected. With everything we saw, I was transported back to my beloved 'Roman Holiday' which M always used to rave about when we watched it back on VCR most summers, however I'm not sure I could compete with Audrey for seeing Rome in style and I sadly did not at any point get on a motorcycle with Gregory Peck...
The evening was spent at a Ricky Martin concert. His 'Best Hits' CD has been playing in our car for at least 5 years, maybe more, so we are all very familiar with Ricky. The venue was open air and when Ricky came on stage only to throw his shirt off, lets just say there were no complaints from the audience! He performed very well and it was impossible not to enjoy, despite the grumpy old Italian man next to me who shot me a dirty look every time I clapped.
Sunday we went to the Vatican to see the Pope. As most of my family are very catholic (M is a chaplain, nuff said), it was very exciting and the whole atmosphere was very special, with thousands of people from all over the world gathering to here the pope say a blessing.
It was a lot to do in a weekend and my feet are yet to recover (Why do I not own comfortable trainers or something blister-proof?!?!) but this is a busy week too!
Yesterday was my first day of my week at London College of Fashion! I am telling you now, if you want to be inspired, go and stand outside the doors of the college and look at the students! I am learning a lot about how the fashion industry works and a lot about retailing and the actual business side of fashion. I'm still feeling set on design but that might change in the next 3 days, who knows! I'm lucky enough to have a very nice group which makes the group work enjoyable too and it is all very very exciting! The College is just off Oxford street so I think everyone has been getting some serious shopping done in the lunch hour! I can really see myself maybe studying there or somewhere similar and the first 2 days have really reinforced my determination that fashion is definitely what I want to work in. I wont go too into it (you take take the classes yourself to find out!) but I spent yesterday afternoon trend forecasting on Oxford street, and today learning about product development of function, fashionability and added value and developing a 30 piece collection (not so much design but price range, fabric etc). I really recommend to anyone not 100% sure about what they want because it helps to cross aspects of the industry off the list for you personally. (I apologise for the shameless endorsing!)
