Stockholm

I'm wearing: boots- River Island
coat and dungarees- topshop
(top which you cant see was vintage if you spot it in any of the other photos here)
As is becoming the standard, I must start this post by commenting on my especially poor upkeep of this blog. I will try harder (she says again).
On a different note, I had an unusually exciting weekend in Stockholm! It made a very pleasant change to not be reclusive due to mountains of Art (grrr) so with the knowlege that I wasn't going to be stuck at my desk, the whole weekend was significantly more enjoyable!
So why Stockholm in the middle of term time you ask? The abbreviated story is this: Davo is a fan of ice hockey (as my regular readers will know) and this weekend Rangers were playing the Stockholm team so we all got whisked off to Sweden, where it is, I might add, freezing cold.
We arrived very late on Friday night to the hotel which had blissfully soft beds and plentiful supplys of blankets (I'm not joking it was c-c-cold).
A traditional Swedish breakfast of cinnamon buns (the specialty) and very strong coffee greeted us once we had dragged ourselves out of bed. Wrapped up in winter coats we braved the chilly morning. The photograph above is me in front of the palace doors. As much as I love coats, they make the fashion aspects of this weekend basically unnoticeable so this post is slightly less fashion based than usual!
Once out and about, we visited some of the shops in Gamla Stan, where we were situated looked at all the fur coats and hats. They looked very warm but my conscience (and budget) took me away from the poor dead animals and instead I bought a nice WOOL hat instead! After this we took a boat tour of the islands that make up Stockholm- I was shocked to find that I actually remembered and knew a lot of the places we saw from reading Steig Larsson's Millenium Trilogy. Turns out I have a much bigger capacity for remembering Swedish places than I give myself credit for!

Obviously, the first thing you think about when you think of Stockholm is the vintage shopping. Well I dragged my family to some places renowned for the shops to find... very little.  My family's patience didnt hold up much longer so we found a very very good shop called Monki, which has made it on to my top 5 shops worldwide, and I stocked up on knitwear (when in sweden...)! More on that later.....

One of the churches we saw- this was my favourite- very beautiful interior

For lunch we had a swedish delicacy of herrings. I still feel nauseous when I think about it. I dont think anything else needs to be said on this matter!
This is us on Sunday morning, another cold day I might add, outside the hotel- mine and my brother's room is the 1st floor, a room I got very well acquainted with while I sat writing my English essay whilst the rest of my family went to the ice hockey (Im not at all bitter!). It was made worth while when we went and got tapas when they got back- and I know what youre thinking- only my family would go to Sweden and eat spanish food but it was justified after our culturally adventurous lunch!
I'm wearing:boots- river island
chinos- Mango
blanket/wrap/poncho(the mexican jokes from Davo were endless)- Monki
Cardigan- vintage
coat- topshop

The cobbled streets

Sunday was spent going round the Stockholm museum of modern art and going around the various little shops and boutiques around Gamla Stan. I will take this opportunity to mention that Stockholm is the most fashionable city I have ever been to ! I could not count all the times I admired someone's coat or boots! i could have happily stayed there for another month but alas, school...
But anyway, back to work!
